Situation In Myanmar

On October 27, 2023, the Three Brotherhood Alliance launched an offensive against the junta . The Three Brotherhood is a military alliance consisting of the Arakan Army, the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA), and the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA). Since then civil order has been hampered in Myanmar .

The two opposing parties are fighting violently .In Rakhine and Chin States, the ethnic Rakhine Arakan Army is presently fighting severe fights against the Border Guard Police (BGP) and the Myanmar Armed Forces (commonly known as the Tatmadaw). They have crushed several Tatmadaw battalions. They have also taken control of almost all border outposts along the Bangladesh-Myanmar border. The rebel groups amassed a sizeable quantity of military hardware. They have also effectively taken control of a sizable chunk of terrain, including several towns like Paletwa and Pauktaw. The gravity of the issue has so deteriorated that the government has enforced curfew in Sittwe, the capital of Rakhine State.

Bangladesh is already being impacted by the increasing violence in the border regions. At night, the noise of gunfire keeps people in the surrounding districts awake. Fighting between the Arakan Army and the military junta has resumed and taken more intense turn over the last five days. As a result, mortar shells have entered Bangladeshi territory. These events caused several injuries as well as at least two deaths. Some bordering areas, most importantly Naikhongchhari ,Teknaf and Ukhiya have been subjected to gunfire from the territory of Myanmar.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has declared the strengthening of security measures. Specially in the areas bordering Myanmar due to growing concerns about the infiltration of members of Myanmar’s border and security forces into Bangladeshi territory. To handle the crisis, the coast guard and local police have been put on high alert.
