Suzanne Somers

90s famous TV actress Suzanne Somers has embraced death after a decades long battle with skin and breast cancer at the age of 76 on October 15, 2023.

Somers was born on October 16, 1946 in San Bruno, California. She began her acting life around late 1960s and early 1970s with small parts in TV shows, like- “The Love Boat”, “One Day at a Time” and “Starsky and Hutch”.

In 1973, George Lucas’s Oscar nominated film “American Graffiti” brought her first on-screen credit. But she was best known for her role as “Chrissy Snow” in “Three’s Company” that aired in 1977 on the ABC. Due to a over pay dispute, Somers got fired from the show after five seasons.

After exiting from the sitcom she went to Las Vegas to become a popular entertainer. In 1987, she earned Las Vegas Female Entertainer of the Year title along with Frank Sinatra.

After a break from on-screen, Somers started her acting again in early 1990s as a lead role in “Step by Step.” In 2015 she appeared on “Dancing with the Stars” season 20. She also hosted her own morning talk show, “The Suzanne Show.” Somers had a versatile career that spanned for decades.

“I’m a fighter”: Suzanne Somers, an irresistible battler

For two decades Suzanne had been fighting with cancer and she had been always very transparent about it. In her 30s, Somers fought skin cancer and again in her 50s, she had to battle with breast cancer. Her husband said she was also diagnosed with hyperplasia in her 20s.

in 2023, on ABC’s “Good Morning America” Somers talked about her breast cancer condition. “every now and then it pops up again, and I continue to bat it down.”

“This is not new territory for me. I know how to put on my battle gear and I’m a fighter” Suzanne also revealed that during these hard times her husband had always been by her side.

A Multi talented human being

Besides being an actress, Suzzane was also an author and fitness icon. Somers wrote numerous books, mostly on natural health topic. She even wrote cookbooks and also had a poetry collection.

Her most recent work was “Two’s Company: A Fifty-Year Romance with Lessons Learned in Love, Life & Business.” It was published in 2017. Some of her best-selling books are- “Sexy Forever,” “Knockout” and “Ageless.”
She even made a fitness kingdom worth of multimillion dollar, collaborating with the Thighmaster and ButtMaster exercise equipments. In 2019, she also launched her own beauty brand.

Romance life

in 1965, Somers was dropped out of collage when she found out she was pregnent. Few days later she married Bruce Somers, the baby’s father. But just after three years of marriage, the couple divorced in 1968.

One year after their divorce, Suzanne met her 2nd husband Alan Hamel on the set of a game show called “Anniversary Game.” She appeared as a prize model there while Alan hosted the show.

Married for five decades, Somers and Hamel remained very much in love and the two took great pride in their family. They quickly started dating afterwards and got married in 1977. The couple remained together until her death.

After fighting with breast cancer for more than two decades the 76 years old actress died early Sunday, on the eve of her 77th birthday. Her family was gathered to celebrate her birthday on October 16 but suddenly everything turned into sorrow. Somers’ publicist R. Couri Hay gave public statements after her death-

“She survived an aggressive form of breast cancer for over 23 years. Suzanne was surrounded by her loving husband Alan, her son Bruce, and her immediate family. Her family was gathered to celebrate her 77th birthday on October 16th. Instead, they will celebrate her extraordinary life, and want to thank her millions of fans and followers who loved her dearly.”

R. Couri Hay also added that a private burial for Suzanne Somers will be held next week and a memorial will be held next month.
