What If…? Season 2

Marvel Studios has released the trailer for What If…? Season 2, the fan-favorite show returns with a new season that will feature one episode a day for nine days straight. It is a show where they present short stories based on mind-numbing “what if” scenarios in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

In the trailer, Disney showed a sneak peek of our favorite heroes, from Doctor Strange to Ant-Man to Black Panther, in dangerous situations, battling foes and trying to stop a worldwide catastrophe and ultimately prevent the collapse of the multiverse.

The Watcher who narrates the story and shows the happenings of the multiverse makes an appearance during the trailer, saying “Things have gotten a little twisted in the Multiverse…” referring to the dangers lurking around the corner and the occurrence of the inevitable.

What is Season 2 of What If…? about?

‘What If…?’ is an American animated series for the streaming service Disney+, which debuted in 1977 based on the Marvel Comics series of the same name. The series unfolds showing a multiversal entity called the Watcher, an alien known as Uatu, who observes both Earth and alternate realities from the Moon and narrates the point of divergence in mainstream Marvel storylines and the consequences of those divergences to their own universes.

Twists in the story as described by the Watcher in the new trailer, refer to the waves coming into the multiverse just like in Season 1. The show is set to release on December 22, with a total of 9 episodes this season, the episodes are directed by executive producer Bryan Andrews with executive producer AC Bradley as head writer.

The main cast members reprising roles in Season 2 include Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange Supreme, Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter / Captain Carter, Lake Bell as Natasha Romanoff / Black Widow, and Jeffrey Wright back as The Watcher. Along with favorite characters returning this season like Gamora, Nebula, and Happy Hogan.

Will What If…? Season 1 have any connection with Season 2?

Season 1 of ‘What If…?’ had a total of 9 episodes that were created but only 8 were released. Creator Bradley later revealed that “What happened with the Gamora episode, there was originally supposed to be — early on in the season — a Tony and Gamora-centric episode.

“However, due to COVID and production delays, one of our amazing, amazing animation houses around the globe got hit pretty hard by the pandemic. And we were left with two choices: push the entire season to later this year, or push this one episode to Season 2. We made the choice to push that episode to Season 2 and hoped that seeing Gamora in the finale serves as a teaser for what is to come. In season two, it’ll almost be like a little bit of a prequel, we’ll see how Tony and Gamora became friends because those two don’t even interact in the main MCU universe.”

The new season has some unique stories this time around, but the one episode left from season 1 will be shown in season 2. Fans who watched and enjoyed season 1 have waited for more than a year since the end of the first part. There are even speculations about the appearance of the character of Kang this season as the coming of Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, anything can happen in the multiverse.
