Madame Web

The Spider-Man fans assemble as the trailer for Madame Web is here, featuring different versions of Spiderman in the three-minute two-second-long footage.

Directed by S.J. Clarkson, who directed episodes of Marvel shows like “The Defenders” and “Jessica Jones,”. The trailer introduces us to Cassandra Webb, played by Dakota Johnson who works as a paramedic and discovers her ability to see the future after a near-death experience.

The trailer explores the run-and-chase between a man who dresses like an evil Spider-Man called Ezekiel Sims, played by Tahar Rahim, hunting three different women, Julia Carpenter played by Sydney Sweeney, Mattie Franklin played by Celeste O’Connor, and Anya Corazon played by Isabela Merced, who are destined to become variant versions of spider-themed heroes like in Marvel-verse.

The trailer’s description on YouTube is as follows: “Meanwhile, in another universe…’ In a switch from the typical genre, Madame Web tells the standalone origin story of one of Marvel publishing’s most enigmatic heroines. The suspense-driven thriller stars Dakota Johnson as Cassandra Webb, a paramedic in Manhattan who may have clairvoyant abilities. Forced to confront revelations about her past, she forges a relationship with three young women destined for powerful futures… if they can all survive a deadly present.”

In an interview with Variety, Dakota Johnson talked about her moments during the shooting, “It was a wild experience,” Johnson said. “I don’t think you can be prepped to go into anything like that, but I learned so much. It is a completely different way of making films.”

Who is Madame Web?

Madame Webb or Cassandra Webb, is a fictional character of Marvel comics, first appearing in November 1980, in The Amazing Spider-man #210, created by artist John Romita Jr and writer Denny O’Neil. Madame Web is a clairvoyant and precognitive mutant who first time appears to find a kidnapping victim and helps Spider-Man during the process.

There are different versions of Madame Web. Characters like Julia Carpenter are most notably known in the comic as the second Madame Web. She is gifted the powers of Madame Web by Cassandra herself after was attacked and killed in the ‘Grim Hunt’ storyline.

What does “Madame Web” mean for other Spider-verse characters?

The official synopsis for the movie implies Madame Web takes place in another universe, completely different from Tom Holland’s Spider-Man series, and Venom and movies like Morbius.

Although it might upset some fans about failing to see the clash of the spider world, this is still not guaranteed, there are possibilities that all spider-themed characters will come together like in the 2022 film Spider-Man: No Way Home.

The movie is scheduled to release on February 14, 2024, in the theaters.
