Billie Eilish recently opened up about her sexuality. During an interview with Variety, Billie revealed the struggles she faced throughout her whole life when trying to relate to girls and mingling with them.

She expressed, “I’ve never really felt like I could relate to girls very well. I love them so much. I love them as people. I’m attracted to them as people. I’m attracted to them for real”, she goes on “I’m physically attracted to them. But I’m also so intimidated by them and their beauty and their presence.”

The way Billie Eilish disclosed this information ponders upon whether she’s being direct or just coming out with her inner turmoils. She continued about her struggles with her femininity. “I’ve never felt like a woman, to be honest with you, I’ve never felt desirable. I’ve never felt feminine.” she said in the Variety interview. “I have to convince myself that I’m, like, a pretty girl,” she added. “I identify as ‘she/her’ and things like that, but I’ve never really felt like a girl.”

Eilish bravely dispels all sexuality speculations

There’s been a lot of speculation on her sexuality throughout the years. She even recently confessed on having a crush on stranger things star Maya Hawke. The pop star was even in a seven month long relationship with musician Jesse Rutherford, they first linked in October 2022, and rumours started about being together until finally Billie confirmed her relationship in November a month later.

However in May 2023 it was confirmed that the couples are not together and have broken up after a couple months in relationship.

The musician spoke about the people who focus on her body. She spoke about her avoiding people who sexualize her body and her reasoning of wearing big baggy clothes to feel a sense of protection and safety from these predators.

Speaking on being sexualized as she grew up, Eilish hit back at people who focused over her body. “I wasn’t trying to have people not sexualize me,” she said. “But I didn’t want people to have access to my body, even visually. I wasn’t strong enough and secure enough to show it. If I had shown it at that time, I would have been completely devastated if people had said anything.”

Eilish felt the discrepancy of the double standard between man and women, and it’s lack of morals that applies to the standard set of sexual tendencies to women than to men. The singer continued, “Nobody ever says a thing about men’s bodies,” she says. “If you’re muscular, cool. If you’re not, cool. If you’re rail thin, cool. If you have a dad body, cool. If you’re pudgy, love it! Everybody’s happy with it. You know why? Because girls are nice. They don’t give a fuck because we see people for who they are!”.

It can be said that expressing her feelings on girls and her womanhood, is her own way of empowerment and feeling a sense of security from all her insecurities that she experienced in the past and how she’s coping with it.
