Artificial Intelligence

Widespread implementation of AI increased the demand of Psychology experts

Artificial Intelligence (AI) refers to the programs or tools that are able to handle some specific type of tasks without human assistance. The genesis of AI comes with the hand of Alan Turing in 1950 when he published a research paper entitled “Computing Machinery and Intelligence” where he tried to explain whether a machine can think or not.

From a general view, a machine cannot actually think like humans. But there is a match in the learning pattern of humans and machines which is, both entities learn by experience.

Humans learn to solve a specific task by following some data patterns. For instance, when a student solves a mathematical problem for the first time, it takes time. A few weeks after practices, the time of solving the same type of problems is less than before. Because the student gradually learns the pattern of solving that type of mathematical problem.

Similarly, when a human inputs adequate data into a machine to solve a specific problem, the machine eventually learns how to solve the problem. In this way, the machines learn the pattern of the problems, which grows the ability of thinking in machines.

Think of a robot that can automatically tell the temperature of a place. It was initially built by a programmer who maybe gave it the ability of sensing temperature and every time a unit temperature rises, the value of temperature count increments by a specific unit. This is an example of an AI model that can solve a specific problem. The following YouTube link takes you to a synthwave track where the lead vocals are generated using AI model.

Same thing goes for a supervised machine learning model, a subset of AI. The model takes relatable data, learns the pattern of these data, and then predicts outcome based on the dataset patterns.

To exemplify, imagine there is a dataset containing the columns faculty name, course, and grade of 100 students. If a model is trained with the first 80 samples of the dataset, it gets the ability to predict the grades of the rest of the 20 students even though the model has never seen those 20 students’ information.

It happens because from the 80 samples of the trained dataset, the machine learned the pattern of how student grades are manipulated by their faculty and course.

Therefore, from a broader perspective, every type of automated systems are a sort of AI model since these machines are fed with data, and based on these data they output corresponding values.

Now, if the programmer of the temperature robot writes more codes into the Artificial Intelligence model, feeding the entire data available in Google, and programs it in such a way that it will produce generative results based on the data to the user, then can we imagine what will eventually happen?

The robot gets the ability to solve almost every type of problem that exists, as Google has a solution for everything which will genuinely surpass a human brain. This is what Gen AI chatbots like ChatGPT, Bard, and Microsoft Copilot do.

Now what if a human knows something that Google has not known yet? Because he is the first one to invent that thing? This is the case when a human brain overwhelms the AI models since humans have the ability to think out of the box, critically analyze a phenomenon that never happened before.

On the other hand, the AI model is always dependent on its supervisor. It cannot respond to a prompt whose data source is not fed by the supervisor to the model. This is why an AI model cannot usually inform an user about the latest news.

To conclude, humans and AI learn a thing following the almost same approach of gaining experience by data, but their capabilities are different. While a human has the ability of thinking independently and inventing new things, AI cannot do so.

Conversely, since Artificial Intelligence models can process and learn huge amounts of data very quickly unlike the human brain, they have the potential to be the best in multiple sectors at the same time.
