2024 promises to be one of the most iconic years in the movie industry, with highly anticipated movies scheduled for release this year. Films delayed due to the WAG and SAG-AFTRA strikes will finally hit screens, and changes due to the strike will affect the movie industry, hopefully in a good way. 

Let’s look at the 5 most anticipated movies scheduled for release this year. 

5. Mickey 17

Robert Pattinson stars in Boon Joon-ho’s highly anticipated movie adaptation of Edward Ashton’s sci-fi thriller, Mickey 17. In this movie, an ‘expendable’ space traveller is dispatched on a deadly mission to conquer Niflheim. Mickey dies, but his body is cloned with his memories intact and this sets off a cycle of potential immortality. 

4. Dune: Part Two 

Sequel to 2021 film Dune, Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya return as the protagonists in this second installation. The sequel to Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation of the classic sci-fi saga follows the story of Paul Atriedes who teams up with his love interest Chani and the Fremen to avenge his family and bring peace to the planet of Arrakis. 

3. Deadpool 3 

Ryan Reynolds returns with the much-awaited third installment of his famous superhero role in Deadpool 3. In this film, Hugh Jackman will make his comeback in his famous role as Wolverine, as the two superheros are set to team up to defeat a common enemy. 

2. Madame Web 

Dakota Johnon makes her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut as Cassandra Webb in Madame Web, the paramedic heroine who struggles with her clairvoyant skills. Cassandra takes on the responsibility of protecting and saving a trio of young girls, who will play a significant role in the future,  from a deadly enemy, as she deals with her own past and newly discovered psychic abilities.

1. Mean Girls: The Musical 

Tina Fey’s cult classic movie Mean Girls will be back on the big screen, this time as a musical with a mostly new cast. The film is an adaptation of the 2018 Broadway musical of Mean Girls. Reneé Rapp will play Regina George, as the actress returns to the role she played on Broadway. Angourie Rice will star as Cady Heron and Fey and Tim Meadows reprise their respective roles from the original movie as math teacher Ms.Norbury and Principal Duvall.
